ISSUE: Environment, Hunger, Economic Opportunity

A number of recent reports and critiques have questioned the sustainability of biofuels as a successful answer in eliminating fossil fuel energy dominance, reducing energy costs and emissions and decreasing environmental damage. Many concerns, such as cropland being diverted causing more hunger, to deforestation, to various carbon footprint and energy measures of producing biofuels coming out a net loss in environmental damage have been raised, unless alternative ways to produce biofuels that do not cause the above can be proven successful. Do you believe a moratorium on government subsidies for biofuels should occur until widespread scientific consensus exits on how biofuels can be created sustainably without using more energy, causing more hunger and creating more environmental damage?
